President Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as Energy Minister, effective July 18, 2024, following his appointment as running mate to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
In a statement on July 11, 2024, the President expressed his sincere appreciation to Dr. Opoku Prempeh for his committed service to the government and the people of Ghana, acknowledging his dedication and contributions during his tenure as Energy Minister and previously as Education Minister.
His tenure as Minister for Education and as Minister for Energy has been marked by a stellar record of accomplishments and significant contributions to the education and energy sectors,” a statement by Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin noted.
This decision has been made to enable Dr Opoku Prempeh to focus on his new role as the running mate.
President Akufo-Addo has asked the Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Abu Jinapor, MP for Damongo, to exercise Cabinet oversight responsibility over the Ministry of Energy.
President Akufo-Addo offers his warmest wishes and blessings to Dr. Opoku Prempeh as he embarks on his new role, and has every confidence that he will continue to serve the party and the nation with the same dedication and excellence that have characterized his tenure as Minister for Education and Energy.
