Focus on reviving economy, not empty campaign promises – Mahama tells NPP

Former President John Dramani Mahama, flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) leadership for prioritizing political campaigning and making empty promises over addressing the country’s economic challenges.

He expressed dismay at the NPP’s running mate, Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s claim that President Akufo-Addo’s achievements surpass those of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, stating that this demonstrates the government’s disconnect from the reality of Ghana’s economic hardships.

Mahama emphasized that the government’s primary focus should be on tackling the nation’s pressing economic issues, rather than making unfounded promises.

He made these remarks during a mini durbar with the Chiefs and Elders of La-Bawuleshie and Mempeasem in the Ayawaso West Constituency, where he urged the NPP government to prioritize economic improvement over political rhetoric.

Mahama’s comments highlight the need for the government to acknowledge the country’s economic challenges and take concrete steps to address them, rather than engaging in political grandstanding.

By prioritizing economic revitalization, the government can ensure that Ghana’s citizens receive the support they need to thrive.

Mahama emphasized that if the government truly grasped the situation, they would take immediate action to alleviate the economic hardship, rather than making promises for the future.

With only five months until the election, there is still time for the government to implement urgent measures to improve the economy.

He criticized the government’s approach of asking for votes before taking action, saying that they have the power to make changes now.

Mahama suggested that the government could start implementing their promises, such as rationalizing taxes, immediately, rather than delaying until after the election.

He also warned that the government’s tactics in 2016, which may have worked in the past, will not be effective this time around.

The people of Ghana are eager for tangible solutions to their economic struggles, and empty promises will not suffice.
