In a shocking turn of events, Nana Kofi Amofa, alias Kofi Yesu, a 30-year-old man, has been arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Unit (PID) for attempting to sell his six-year-old niece for a staggering GHC150,000 (approximately $22,000 USD).
The arrest took place on July 25, 2024, around 10:00 pm at Gomoa Buduburam, near Obolo estate.
Acting on a tip-off, police officers cleverly posed as potential buyers and engaged with the suspect, who brazenly demanded GHC150,000 in exchange for the young girl.
Upon his arrest, Amofa revealed that the child is his brother’s daughter, Kwadwo Brako, who resides in Nyamebekyere, a village near Akyem Ayirebi in the Eastern Region.
Further investigation revealed that Amofa had deceitfully convinced the child’s parents to let her stay with him under the guise of providing better educational opportunities, unbeknownst to them that he had sinister intentions to sell her.
The suspect’s actions have left the family and community reeling in shock.
The suspect and the victim have been handed over to the Kasoa DOVVSU department for further investigation and appropriate action.
This disturbing incident highlights the need for vigilance and swift action against human trafficking and exploitation.
