Cairo, Egypt – March 27, 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially awarded Egypt the hosting rights for the TotalEnergies CAF Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
This decision follows Côte d’Ivoire’s withdrawal due to unforeseen circumstances, as confirmed by the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) and the Ivorian government.
The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) and the Egyptian government had previously submitted a bid to host the prestigious youth tournament. With a rich football history and world-class infrastructure, Egypt is well-prepared to deliver an exciting competition.
The tournament will kick off on Sunday, April 27, 2025, with the final scheduled for May 18, 2025. It will bring together the best U-20 teams from across Africa, competing for the coveted title and a place at the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
This marks another significant milestone for Egyptian football, further cementing the country’s reputation as a hub for international tournaments. Egypt previously hosted the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations in 2019 and has been a consistent force in African football development.
CAF President Patrice Motsepe expressed confidence in Egypt’s ability to host a successful tournament, stating:
“Egypt has a strong track record in organizing top-tier football events. We trust that the Egyptian Football Association and government will deliver an outstanding tournament that showcases the future stars of African football.”
The tournament will not only provide a platform for young African talents to shine but also boost Egypt’s sports tourism industry. Fans across the continent can expect thrilling matches, passionate crowds, and a celebration of Africa’s rich football culture.
More details on match venues and preparations will be announced in the coming weeks.
