The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is advocating for a pre-election debate among political parties contesting the 2024 elections, emphasizing its importance in enabling informed decision-making by voters.
Amidst disagreement between NPP and NDC on the necessity of debates, IEA’s Professor Alexander Bilson Darku revealed that engagements with political parties have begun to organize a debate before December 7.
Stressing on the need for voters to assess presidential and vice-presidential candidates through such debates.
The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) is emphasizing that the need for debate is a fundamental right of the Ghanaian people, allowing them to understand their presidential candidates’ and parties’ plans and policies. IEA is currently engaging with political parties to organize a presidential debate, with a timetable to be announced soon.
The debate will be held at a convenient time for both the parties and the nation.
According to Professor Alexander Bilson Darku, participating parties and candidates will be selected based on the Afrobarometer criteria, with an expected four or five parties and their presidential and vice-presidential candidates invited to participate.
