In a recent interview on Peace FM, former Techiman City FC President Micky Charles voiced strong criticism against the Ghana Football Association’s (GFA) Disciplinary Committee for its decision to charge former GFA Vice President George Afriyie with misconduct.
Charles questioned why Afriyie was being singled out for his comments on Ghanaian football, especially when similar or more severe criticisms have been publicly voiced by other prominent football figures.
“What has George said that warrants his invitation by the GFA?” Charles asked. “I listened to the whole interview; he spoke about the Black Stars and pointed out issues with our league. Is George Afriyie the only one to talk?”
Charles highlighted other outspoken critics of the GFA, notably Alhaji Grusah, who previously accused the association of corruption, claiming that kickbacks had been taken and kept in personal accounts.
“Nobody has called Alhaji Grusah. Why? Isn’t he a Ghanaian, or do they fear him?” Charles continued, emphasizing a perceived inconsistency in the GFA’s disciplinary actions.
Charles also pointed to recent comments by Dr. Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe, a board member of Accra Hearts of Oak, who alleged that Samartex’s league success was influenced by corruption.
“What has the GFA done about Nyaho-Tamakloe’s statements?” Charles asked, suggesting that the GFA should hold all individuals to the same standard.
This development adds fuel to an ongoing debate about fairness and accountability in Ghanaian football, as the GFA’s disciplinary practices come under increasing scrutiny.
The association has yet to respond to Charles’ comments or address his allegations of inconsistency in its approach to public criticism.
