Frank Annor Dompreh, the Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyire Constituency in the Eastern Region, has been found guilty of contempt of court by the High Court in Accra, presided over by Justice Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku.
This conviction comes after Annor Dompreh pleaded guilty to the offense, acknowledging his actions as wrongful.
The court took into consideration Annor Dompreh’s status as a public figure, deciding against a custodial sentence.
Instead, Justice Adjin-Doku imposed a fine of 600 penalty units, equivalent to GH₵7,200, on July 23.
This decision reflects the court’s balance between holding the MP accountable for his actions and recognizing his position in society.
The contempt charge arose from Annor Dompreh’s disruption of court bailiffs and police officers executing a court order related to disputed lands.
By intervening in the legal process, Annor Dompreh compromised the authority of the court and the rule of law.
The court’s conviction and sentencing serve as a reminder that all individuals, including public officials, must respect the legal system and its processes.
