Man City Duo Clinch Top Honors: Foden and Shaw Named FWA Footballers of the Year

In a testament to their exceptional talent and outstanding contributions to the beautiful game, Manchester City stars Phil Foden and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw have been crowned the 2024 Football Writers’ Association (FWA) Footballer of the Year and Women’s Footballer of the Year, respectively.

Foden’s meteoric rise to prominence has been nothing short of remarkable, as the young English midfielder has played a pivotal role in Manchester City’s quest for Premier League glory. Under the guidance of manager Pep Guardiola, Foden’s stellar performances have been instrumental in City’s pursuit of a historic fourth consecutive league title.

His skill, vision, and unwavering determination on the pitch have earned him the admiration of fans and peers alike, making him a deserving recipient of the prestigious Footballer of the Year award.

In a gracious acknowledgment of his achievement, Foden paid tribute to Guardiola for his role in his development, highlighting the crucial influence of the esteemed manager in his rise to prominence in the footballing world.

Meanwhile, Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has etched her name into the annals of football history with her prolific goal-scoring prowess for Manchester City Women’s team. Shaw’s lethal finishing and attacking flair have propelled City’s women’s side to the brink of clinching their first Women’s Super League title since 2016.

Her remarkable talent and invaluable contributions to the team have earned her the coveted Women’s Footballer of the Year award, further solidifying her status as one of the brightest stars in women’s football.

The duo’s triumph marks a significant milestone for Manchester City, as they become only the second club in the past five years to clinch both the men’s and women’s FWA Footballer of the Year awards, following in the footsteps of Raheem Sterling and Nikita Parris’ double victory in 2019.

Foden’s impressive feat saw him secure an impressive 42% of the vote, edging out stiff competition from Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice, with his City teammate Rodri rounding out the top three.

As Foden and Shaw bask in the glory of their well-deserved accolades, their achievements serve as a testament to their talent, dedication, and unwavering commitment to excellence on the football pitch.
