Despite SSNIT’s decision to terminate the sale of its 60% shares in four hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong, Organized Labour is proceeding with a nationwide strike today.
The strike is a protest against SSNIT’s initial attempt to sell the shares, which Labour deemed unacceptable.
Although the sale process has been terminated, Labour remains resolute in its decision to strike, citing concerns over the handling of the situation.
Dr. Eliasu Mumuni, National Secretary of UTAG, expressed disappointment and betrayal, stating that SSNIT ignored their warnings and concerns, breaking the trust of the labor group.
Despite NPRA’s intervention and promise to put the transaction on hold, SSNIT secretly obtained approval, prompting Organized Labour to schedule a strike for July 15.
Although SSNIT has now publicly terminated the transaction, the breach of trust remains, and therefore
We demand a restructuring of the SSNIT board, relieving current members of their positions and appointing new ones.
