In a resounding triumph, the Nest School Complex in Takoradi has surpassed all expectations in this year’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The outstanding results have captured the attention of many, with 40 out of 46 candidates securing an impressive aggregate of 6.
The remarkable achievement has ignited disbelief and astonishment in the Sekondi-Takoradi metropolis, with some suggesting it might be the best performance in the Sekondi Takoradi Metropolis and the Western Region at large. The shock deepens considering that 18 out of the 46 candidates recorded straight ones in all nine subjects, with the lowest aggregate being 08. The school also recorded a hundred percent ones in three of the core subjects (English Language, Integrated Science and Social Studies) and 93.5 percent ones in mathematics.
The Nest School Complex, with nearly three decades of educational excellence, faced a period of decline before experiencing a renaissance under the dynamic leadership of the new Head of Academics, Mr. Edmund Brijuu. The school, once a frontrunner in BECE rankings, had seen a downturn until the strategic interventions implemented by new leadership.
Under the guidance of the new management and leadership, the school implemented stringent academic standards. Students aiming for promotion to the form three class were required to achieve an average score of 70 percent across all three terms. Those falling short of the benchmark were granted an opportunity to write a focused benchmark exam, encompassing only the four core subjects. Only students meeting the 70 percent average across these subjects were allowed to progress.
Preparations for the BECE included a comprehensive approach, with the final year class undertaking six mock examinations. While the first two mock examinations were crafted by subject teachers, the last four were designed and assessed by external examination consortiums. These rigorous measures aimed to ensure thorough preparation and readiness for the crucial examination.
Commitment to academic excellence extended to the entire teaching staff, with a focus on training and retraining teachers to enhance their effectiveness. Non-performing teachers were replaced, and a strategic reshuffling of staff took place, aligning the strengths of educators with the needs of the students.
The transformative efforts of new management and leadership have propelled the Nest School Complex to new heights, reaffirming its status as one of Takoradi’s premier educational institutions. The recent BECE success not only marks a significant turnaround for the school but also establishes it as a beacon of academic achievement in the region.
