Vice President Bawumia Affirms Stance Against LGBTQ+ Rights

In a bold declaration, Vice President Dr. Bawumia, who is also the Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has broken his silence on his stance regarding LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana.

Speaking out on a contentious issue that has sparked debate and controversy nationwide, Dr. Bawumia reiterated his firm opposition to the practice of homosexuality, aligning his position with both his religious beliefs and Ghanaian cultural norms.

Addressing the issue head-on, Dr. Bawumia emphasized the importance of upholding Ghana’s cultural and societal values, which he stated unequivocally frown upon the practice of homosexuality. As a devout Muslim, Dr. Bawumia underscored the alignment of his views with the teachings of Islam, citing the Holy Quran’s condemnation of LGBTQ+ acts, including same-sex marriages.

“My faith is very strictly against the practice of homosexuality, no ‘ifs’ or ‘buts’,” Dr. Bawumia asserted, leaving no room for ambiguity in his stance. He emphasized that his position on the matter is unwavering and rooted in the teachings of Islam, as well as the collective values upheld by Ghanaian society.

Dr. Bawumia made it clear that he cannot, in good conscience, support any actions or policies that contradict his religious beliefs and the prevailing cultural norms of Ghana. He emphasized that his opposition to LGBTQ+ rights extends beyond personal convictions and reflects a broader consensus among the major religious traditions in the country, including Christianity and Islam.

“As President, I will continue to stand opposed to the practice of homosexuality, Insha Allah,” Dr. Bawumia affirmed, signaling his commitment to upholding traditional values and religious principles if elected to the highest office in the land.

The Vice President’s statement is likely to resonate with a significant segment of the Ghanaian population who share his views on LGBTQ+ rights. However, it also underscores the ongoing debate surrounding human rights and equality in the country, with advocates for LGBTQ+ rights calling for greater tolerance and inclusion.

As the presidential campaign heats up, Dr. Bawumia’s stance on LGBTQ+ rights is likely to be a topic of continued discussion and debate, reflecting the complex interplay between religion, culture, and human rights in Ghanaian society.
