This thing about 3 MUSIC TV not playing Ghanaian songs is ignorant – Olele Salvador

Ghanaians have over the years whined on how some media outlets in the country have given foreign contents (Telenovelas, music, documentaries, etc) more airtime than Ghanaian contents.

One of of these media outlets that’s have suffered criticisms for airing foreign contents is 3 MUSIC TV. But according to Olele Salvador, who’s a panel on “Culture Daily” which airs on 3 MUSIC TV, the station has an editorial policy that sees them prioritize quality songs, videos and eye-catching contents. He also noted the firm has even declined to air some videos which artistes brought to their office and even attached money to it.

He took to his socials to write;

“This thing about 3 MUSIC TV not playing Ghanaian songs is ignorant. It’s dead on arrival. Because the truth is, we do. We have a whole playlist known as “Ghana Jollof.” We even have “Hotz GH” too.
But here is the catch; every media house has a policy—an editorial policy. This keeps us in check to maintain quality standards. This is what separates a Citi FM from a Peace FM.
There’s a whole team responsible for that. On 3Music TV, it’s pretty simple; good songs + quality video, amongst OTHER things.
The goal is to serve our audience with ‘eye-candy’ content. Be it an upcoming artist or an established act, we try our best to do that. We are constantly reviewing our policy and have resorted to easing some of these parameters to accommodate some.
There have been artists who have come by our office to have their videos air on our channel and are denied entry. Most of them come with cash & they still don’t make the cut. It’s because of this same editorial policy. So it’s not just about ‘support your own.’
Once upon a time, when Channel O was the ish or, even in recent times, Trace TV, they don’t just play any video because it was ‘Nigerian.’ They put out the best. So that when you see your video on there, it’s a big deal for you as an artist and for you, the fan.
We pride ourselves at 3 MUSIC as the ‘Culture Headquarters’ for a reason. Quality starts here.
With every flagship product we put out, i.e., the 3 Music Awards, we make sure it matches global standards. You can even testify to this with “Culture Daily.”
Now that you’ve made it this far on this read, I’m curious to know from you how many quality Ghanaian music videos + songs that are out there in the last 2-3 years deserve the spot?
“Support your own” does not mean EVERYTHING, even when the product is cheap. How do we stand out with premium content when we go that route? Can you go to Channel O’s office, MTV, or even Trace Music to tell them that? If you see your artist’s video air on these channels, your eye no dey get? So why can’t a Ghanaian brand also position itself in that space to demand quality?
Every quality Ghanaian video + song has seen rotation on the channel. So if you’re not seeing enough, what does that mean?”
