U-23 AFCON: Black Meteors eliminated from tournament with draw to Guinea

Ghana’s U-23 Men’s team, the Black Meteors are out of the CAF U-23 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Morocco after failing to beat Guinea on Friday night.

The Group A last match, ended in a 1-1 draw after Ghana opened the scoring in the first half but lost guide to concede in the second half.

Out of nothing, the Black Meteors secured the lead in the first half having being very shambolic in chance creation. Ghana failed to defend in shape neither did they look a threat to the Guineans but made a brilliant use of one mistake.

In the 32nd minute, Guinea goalkeeper made an error with a poor kick which resulted into Ghana taking possession and with a split of a pass it located Hafiz just around the box. 1V1 ball situation exposed the Guineans backline with Emmanuel Yeboah finishing from a close range.

His 33rd minute goal marked his third goal of the campaign.


Coach Ibrahim Tanko held unto the 1-0 advantage to end the first half.

After the break at the Grande Stade De Tanger, Ghana was expected to keep their backline in shape but failed to handle that and suffered the equalizer exactly on the hour mark.

Guinea leveled scores in the 60th minute to close the door for Ghana’s qualify despite making changes to the side in the second department. The Black Meteors have exited the U-23 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations with just a win and conceding 8 goals but scored 5 times.

The Black Meteors needed to beat THE YOUNG Syli National to secure a place in the next stage of the competition, having picked up a 3-2 victory over Congo in their opening game on Sunday, June 25 and a 5-1 humiliating defeat to hosts Morocco on Tuesday, June 27.

Guinea now qualifies from Group A with host Morocco with 4 points, bidding farewell to Black Meteors.
