Ghana head coach Carlos Queiroz has parted ways with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) by mutual agreement, bringing his time in charge of the Black Stars to an end.
Queiroz confirmed the decision in a statement, saying it followed discussions held in a spirit of mutual respect between himself and the GFA.
He said both parties concluded that terminating their professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action under the circumstances, with the interests of Ghana, the Black Stars and Ghanaian football taking priority.
“This was not an easy decision, but both parties agreed that, under the present circumstances, ending our professional relationship was the most appropriate course of action,” Queiroz said.
The Portuguese coach expressed gratitude to the GFA, particularly its President, for trusting him with the responsibility of leading the four-time African champions.
Queiroz said he arrived in Ghana determined to help build a stronger future for the Black Stars and contribute to the development of the country’s football talent.
However, he acknowledged that the conditions required to fully achieve those objectives were not established, while the team’s recent performance also contributed to the decision to end his tenure.
“It has been an honour to serve Ghana and the Black Stars,” he said. “I leave with respect, gratitude and pride.”
The former Real Madrid and Portugal coach also thanked his technical team and everyone who supported the Black Stars, particularly throughout preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Queiroz reserved special praise for the players, urging Ghanaians to continue believing in and supporting the current generation.
“Believe in these players. Protect them. Support them,” he said.
According to Queiroz, the Black Stars possess the talent and potential to achieve significant success if provided with unity, support and the right environment.
He also expressed appreciation to Ghanaians and Black Stars supporters for their passion, support and warmth during his time with the national team.
Queiroz ended his farewell message by reaffirming his affection for Ghana.
“Ghana comes first. The Black Stars come first. Ghanaian football comes first. Thank you, Ghana. To the Future.”
