An ordained Catholic priest gets married in Kenya; God did not make a mistake when creating man and woman.

In a remarkable departure from the traditional path of Catholic priesthood, Reverend Father Edwin Gathang’i Waiguru, an ordained Kenyan Catholic priest, embarked on a unique journey of love and devotion. His story is one of faith, love, and the courage to follow his heart.

Father Waiguru, known for his unwavering commitment to the Catholic Church, surprised many when he chose to marry Margaret Wanjira Githui, a woman he deeply loved. Their love story, unlike any other, defied the centuries-old tradition of priestly celibacy.

The ceremony took place in Kiambu County, just north of Nairobi, under the auspices of Bishop Patrick Mulau of the Kirinyaga Charismatic Church. Surrounded by family and friends, Father Waiguru and Margaret exchanged vows, pledging their love and commitment to one another.

“It is possible to serve God and have a family and have a lovely wife,” Father Waiguru proclaimed, challenging the long-held notion that priesthood and marriage were incompatible. He continued, “God did not make a mistake when he created a man and a woman, and He said it is not good for somebody to be alone.”

Sent to preach in North and South America, he discovered that his heart yearned for a different kind of service—one that allowed him to marry and have a family. Returning to Kenya, he followed his heart and chose to marry Margaret in a traditional ceremony, and the couple was soon blessed with two children.

Not content with merely marrying, Father Waiguru was ordained once again, this time as a Charismatic priest, and he solemnized his marriage in the eyes of his faith. He believed that he had finally found his true calling as a priest—one that allowed him to embrace both his spiritual and familial duties.
