TUSAAG Declares Nationwide Strike Effective Monday 8th January 2024

In a move that could disrupt the smooth functioning of Technical Universities across Ghana, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Technical University Senior Administrators’ Association of Ghana (TUSAAG) has declared a nationwide strike, effective Monday, January 8, 2024.

The decision, communicated through an official statement, underscores the Association’s unwavering demand for full compliance with the conditions of the roll-over of the retirement date, as stipulated in relevant sections of the Conditions of Service.

The industrial action is set to bring administrative and professional services to a halt, affecting everything from student support to critical university functions.

“The strike action shall mean the outright cessation of all administrative and professional services (including all services for both fresh and continuing students), withdrawal of services at all Units, Sections, Departments, Faculties, Centres, Directorates, Halls of Residence, Finance, ICT Services, physical development, facilities maintenance services, as well as all other main and general services (at the offices of the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, the Registrar),” excerpts from the statement outlined.

TUSAAG’s NEC stands firm on the decision, emphasizing that the strike will persist until the management of all Technical Universities fully implements the conditions specified in the roll-over of the retirement date, as outlined in the Conditions of Service.

“By this correspondence, all members of the Association are to take note, and act accordingly,” the statement concluded, signaling a unified front among TUSAAG members in the pursuit of their demands.

As the strike takes effect, the impact on both students and the academic community is expected to be significant.

It remains to be seen how university management will respond to the Association’s demands and whether negotiations will be initiated to find a resolution, bringing an end to the standoff that has disrupted the beginning of the academic year for many Technical Universities in Ghana.
