Ghana Air Force Helicopter Makes Emergency Landing, Passengers Rescued Safely

A Ghana Air Force helicopter with registration number GHF 696 was forced to make an emergency landing near Bonsukrom in Agona Nkwanta, Western Region.

The incident occurred at approximately 12:30 PM on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, during a routine offshore powerline inspection of the Atuabo gas plant.

The helicopter, carrying 21 passengers comprising staff of the Ghana National Gas Company and aircrew, experienced difficulties mid-flight, prompting the emergency landing.

Despite the tense situation, all passengers on board were successfully rescued, and there were no reported fatalities.

Following the emergency landing, the passengers were evacuated from the helicopter and are currently undergoing routine medical checkups to ensure their well-being.

Meanwhile, authorities have launched preliminary assessments to determine the cause of the incident and ensure the safety of future flights.

The prompt and efficient response of the Ghana Air Force and emergency personnel played a crucial role in ensuring the safety of all individuals involved.

As investigations into the incident continue, more information is expected to be released to the public in due course.

This incident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with aerial operations, even during routine procedures.

However, the successful rescue of all passengers underscores the importance of proper training, preparedness, and swift action in emergency situations.

The Ghana Air Force and relevant authorities remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of air travel within the country, and steps will be taken to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.

As the investigation progresses, the aviation community and the public await further updates on the cause of the emergency landing.
