A joint operation by the Pharmacy Council in the Ashanti Region and the police led to the closure of RX Mart Pharmacy at Moshie Zongo in the Manhyia North District of the Ashanti Region for failing to renew their licences for the past eight year in an initiative called operation shutdown retail pharmacy operating with expired operational license.
In 2023, the Pharmacy Council had already closed over 100 pharmaceutical shops in Ghana between September and November for operating illegally and prescribing the wrong medications.
The Ashanti regional Manager of the pharmacy council, Ghana, Mr Benjamin Kwarteng Frimpong, asserted that the council is committed to enforcing its laws and will continue to take action against pharmacies that do not comply.
“We are warning operators of pharmaceutical facilities that are not duly registered or operating with expired licenses that we are coming hard on them this year because we have to guarantee public safety, and once you have decided to be part of this industry, you have to abide by the rules and regulations set by the pharmacy council” he added.
