Africans not asking for handouts, we demand equal opportunities – Akufo-Addo to UN

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has made a passionate call to action at the United Nations General Assembly in New York, emphasizing the need for equal opportunities for Africans to drive growth and development.
He stressed that Africans do not need handouts from the West, but rather opportunities in education, healthcare, and jobs to build better lives for themselves and their families.

Akufo-Addo criticized the global system’s bias against Africans, viewing them as passive aid recipients rather than equal partners.
This perspective, he argued, has hindered Africa’s ability to shape its future and realize its full potential.

He emphasized that Africa is not a continent of despair, but one full of great possibilities, rich in potential and resilient in the face of adversity.

The President’s sentiments echo his previous calls for Africa to take charge of its destiny and not rely on foreign aid.
He has encouraged African countries to optimize the use of their resources, creativity, and innovation to finance their development agenda.

Akufo-Addo underscored the importance of inclusive decision-making, ensuring that the poor, vulnerable, and displaced are not left behind.
He emphasized that meetings and discussions must translate into tangible actions, going beyond mere rhetoric to bring about meaningful change.

“We cannot in good conscience leave them behind,” Akufo-Addo stated, emphasizing that the poor, vulnerable, and displaced should be at the center of decision-making.

This approach, he argued, would ensure that development initiatives are tailored to meet the needs of all Africans, regardless of their socio-economic status.

Akufo-Addo’s message emphasizes the need for a shift in perspective, from relying on aid to empowering Africans to take charge of their own development.
This requires a fundamental transformation of the global system, recognizing Africans as equal partners rather than passive recipients of aid.

The President’s call to action has resonated with many, sparking renewed debate on the need for Africa-centric solutions to the continent’s development challenges.
As the international community continues to grapple with issues of poverty, inequality, and climate change, Akufo-Addo’s words serve as a timely reminder of the importance of inclusive and sustainable development.

By advocating for equal opportunities and inclusive decision-making, Akufo-Addo has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to African development and unity.
His message has also underscored the need for collective action, encouraging African nations to work together to address common challenges and leverage opportunities.

As the United Nations General Assembly continues, Akufo-Addo’s speech will likely inspire further discussion on the need for a more equitable global system.
With Africa’s growing population and economic potential, the continent’s development agenda has significant implications for global prosperity.

Ultimately, Akufo-Addo’s call to action challenges the international community to rethink its approach to African development, prioritizing equal opportunities, inclusive decision-making, and sustainable growth. By doing so, Africans can unlock their full potential, driving progress and prosperity for generations to come.
