Two Chinese nationals have been reported missing at sea following an incident at the Takoradi anchorage of the Ghana Ports and Harbours Authority (GPHA) late Saturday night.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:00 p.m. while the individuals were reportedly working aboard a manganese-loading crane vessel. According to preliminary information from a reliable source within the Ghana Marine Police, the two were involved in an accident during ongoing loading operations when they went missing under unclear circumstances.

Emergency response efforts were immediately activated, with personnel from the Ghana Navy, the Ghana Police Service, and GPHA collaborating in an intensive search and rescue operation. Despite several hours of coordinated efforts, the missing individuals had not been found as of the time of filing this report.

Authorities say the search is ongoing, with additional resources expected to be deployed to widen the scope of the operation. Officials have also begun preliminary investigations to determine the exact cause of the accident and whether safety protocols were adhered to during the loading process.

The incident has raised fresh concerns about safety conditions during night-time operations at the busy Takoradi harbour, particularly in high-risk activities such as mineral loading.

Stakeholders within the maritime and port sectors are being urged to support ongoing efforts to locate the missing persons, as well as assist in ensuring that safety standards are strictly enforced to prevent future occurrences.

Further updates are expected as the situation develops.
