UK to switch to E-Visas in 2025

The United Kingdom’s government has announced a significant shift in its visa policy, effective January 1, 2025. This change will impact individuals planning extended stays in the UK.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has alerted travelers about the replacement of physical visa documentation with Electronic Visas (E-Visas).

The British High Commission has confirmed that physical visas in passports, Biometric Residence Permits (BRP), and Biometric Residence Cards (BRC) will no longer be valid beyond December 31, 2024. Instead, the new E-Visa system aims to enhance security and streamline visa processing.

Individuals staying in the UK for more than six months must apply for an E-Visa starting January 1, 2025.
All BRP cards will expire on December 31, 2024, regardless of their original expiration date. Holders must transition to E-Visas.
Travelers planning to exit the UK during the holiday season should secure their E-Visas before December 31, 2024, to avoid re-entry complications.

The Ministry advises affected individuals to visit the British High Commission’s official website or contact UK immigration authorities for guidance on E-Visa applications.

This policy change reflects the UK’s ongoing efforts to reform its immigration system. Recent updates include increased salary thresholds for Skilled Workers and revisions to the Visitor visa category.

The E-Visa system will provide a more efficient and secure way to manage visa applications.
Travelers must ensure they meet the new requirements to avoid potential delays or issues.
The UK government’s emphasis on digital documentation aligns with global trends toward streamlined and secure immigration processes.

In conclusion, the UK’s shift to E-Visas marks a significant development in its immigration policy. Travelers and residents must adapt to these changes to ensure seamless entry and stay in the UK.
