In a historic moment for Ghana’s democracy, Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has officially conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election.

In a heartfelt concession speech, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the decisive victory of former President John Dramani Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

“The data from our own internal collation of the election results indicate that former President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, has won the presidential election decisively.

The NDC has also won the parliamentary election,” Dr. Bawumia declared during a press conference in Accra.

He extended his congratulations to John Mahama, emphasizing the need for unity and a collective focus on national progress. “Ghana’s democracy remains the true winner. I urge all NPP supporters to remain calm and committed to the democratic values we uphold.”

This marks a significant political comeback for John Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s President from 2012 to 2017. His victory signifies a shift in the country’s political landscape, with the NDC also reclaiming a majority in Parliament.

Dr. Bawumia’s concession speech has been widely lauded for its statesmanship and commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s democratic reputation.

Political analysts and civil society organizations have commended his peaceful acceptance of the election outcome, reinforcing Ghana’s status as a beacon of democracy in Africa.

As the nation transitions to new leadership, the focus now turns to President-elect John Mahama’s plans to address pressing economic challenges and implement his vision for Ghana’s future.
