Accra, January 31, 2025 – President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval by the Council of State.
His nomination follows the formal request by the current Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, to proceed on leave ahead of his retirement on March 28, 2025.
Dr. Asiamah is a seasoned economist with a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK. He previously served as the Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017 and has spent over 23 years at the Central Bank, specializing in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic research.
Throughout his career, Dr. Asiamah has been instrumental in shaping Ghana’s monetary and exchange rate policies, contributing to financial system stability and fostering economic growth.
His deep expertise and experience are expected to play a critical role in guiding the Bank of Ghana through the next phase of its mandate.
The nomination was confirmed in a letter by Acting Presidential Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
With Ghana’s economy facing significant challenges, including inflationary pressures and exchange rate fluctuations, Dr. Asiamah’s leadership at the Bank of Ghana will be closely watched as he prepares to take on this crucial role.
