Accra, January 31, 2025 – The Minority Leader has raised concerns over the ongoing vetting of President Mahama’s ministerial nominees, criticizing the Majority’s handling of the process.

Speaking at a press conference today, he highlighted what he described as a lack of good faith and unfair maneuvering by the Majority side.

Tensions have been rising in Parliament following disagreements over the vetting schedule, with the Minority accusing the Majority of attempting to bulldoze nominees through without due process.

The controversy came to a head after the Majority rejected the Minority’s request to adjourn proceedings, leading to a heated exchange late into the night.

Meanwhile, Majority Leader Alexander Kwamena Afenyo-Markin defended his side’s position, emphasizing the need for efficiency in the process.

He took a swipe at the Minority Chief Whip, Rockson-Nelson Dafeamakpor, accusing him of being confrontational.

“The Majority Chief Whip’s role is to be a key negotiator; he should be a diplomat in the chamber. If Dafeamakpor thinks he’s still in opposition and would be a bully, then he’ll meet his meter,” Afenyo-Markin asserted.

The Minority, however, insists that their resistance is not about obstruction but about ensuring a fair and transparent process. As both sides remain firm on their positions, the vetting process continues under heightened political tension.
