A man believed to be in his late thirties is fighting for his life after allegedly inflicting severe injuries on himself in a shocking incident at Mankessim in the Mfantseman Municipality of Ghana’s Central Region.

The victim, a professional tiler who reportedly travelled from Kumasi, had been working in Mankessim alongside a team of apprentices on an ongoing construction project.

According to information gathered, the incident occurred on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when the man visited a friend’s residence in Mankessim to rest after work. In what has been described as a disturbing turn of events, he is alleged to have locked himself inside the room while the friend stepped out.

Sources say the victim then plugged in a tiling machine and used it to inflict serious injuries to his throat under circumstances that remain unclear.

The situation came to light when the friend returned and found the room locked from the inside. After knocking repeatedly without any response, he reportedly became alarmed and forced open a window, only to discover the victim lying in a pool of blood, with the machine still connected to power.

With the help of neighbours, the man was rescued through the window and rushed to the Mankessim Roman Hospital for emergency treatment.

Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment in critical condition.

Friends and apprentices of the victim have expressed shock over the incident, stating that he had not shown any visible signs of distress or disclosed any personal struggles prior to the event.

The case has since been reported to the Mankessim Divisional Police Command, which has launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Authorities are urging the public to remain calm as inquiries continue, while health professionals emphasize the importance of checking in on the mental and emotional well-being of individuals, even when no obvious signs of distress are apparent.
