A failed presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Alan Kyerematen has resigned from the party.
He presented his resignation personally on a forum he made at Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in the afternoon of 25th September, 2023.
The reasons for Mr. Kyerematen’s resignation was as a result of the fact that the party has been centered and captured with a few government officials, and the elections for the NPP Presidential Candidate Primaries were not free and fair and was organized to favor one particular candidate.
“On Sunday, the 27th of August 2023, he issued a public statement in reference to the selection and shortlisting of Presidential Aspirants by the Special Electoral College convened by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on the 26th of August 2023.
He said after having carefully, analysed the results of the said elections, it was absolutely clear to him from events leading to, during and after the elections, that the Special Delegates Conference was strategically and tactically skewed in favour of one particular Aspirant.
In furtherance, the fact that my Polling Agent in the North East region has suffered severe damage to his eye sight, arising from his bold and courageous effort to ensure compliance with the very rules and regulations for the conduct of the elections as approved by the Presidential Elections Committee will forever remain a dark spot in the history of internal elections within the Party.
This barbaric and various acts of violence and collusion, reported in other voting centers, are appalling, unconscionable, and despicable in this 21st century.”
There were media speculations suggesting Mr. Kyerematen is under pressure to contest the December elections as an independent presidential candidate.
He confirmed that he will be standing for an Independent Presidential Candidate in December 2024 Elections.
He said “he wish to use this platform to announce that I am honourably resigning with immediate effect from the New Patriotic Party to contest for the high office of the President of the Republic of Ghana in the 2024 General Elections as an Independent Presidential Candidate.”
The motto for his Movement Party will be Movement for Change, Ghana will rise again. His symbol will be a butterfly 🦋.
Mr. Kyerematen said, “What Ghana needs now is a new change.
