Kumasi — The Asante Kingdom has been plunged into deep mourning following the passing of the revered Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.

The Oyoko Royal Family officially confirmed her death to the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, during an emergency meeting of the Asanteman Traditional Council held on Monday.

The news marks a moment of profound sorrow for the Ashanti people, as the Asantehemaa was regarded as the second most powerful figure in Asanteman, serving not only as queen mother but also as a custodian of the kingdom’s traditions, heritage, and unity.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who ascended the stool in 2017, was known for her wisdom, grace, and unyielding commitment to the preservation of Ashanti customs. Her reign was marked by a strong emphasis on women’s empowerment, the promotion of education, and the peaceful resolution of disputes within the kingdom.

Her passing is expected to trigger elaborate traditional mourning rites in line with centuries-old Ashanti customs, bringing together chiefs, queen mothers, dignitaries, and citizens from across Ghana and beyond to pay their respects.

Details of funeral arrangements are yet to be announced, but the Asanteman Traditional Council has urged the public to join in honoring her legacy and to observe the period of mourning with solemnity.

Nana Konadu Yiadom III leaves behind a rich legacy of leadership, dignity, and cultural preservation that will be remembered for generations.
