The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken decisive action in response to the violent incidents that occurred during the Ghana Premier League (GPL) Matchday 19 clash between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko SC at the Nana Koronamansah Park, which led to the tragic death of a Kotoko supporter.
As part of the measures, both Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko have been officially charged for their roles in the incident, while the Nana Koronamansah Park has been banned indefinitely as investigations continue.
An investigative team has arrived in Sunyani, where they are set to meet with the regional police leadership and visit the site of the incident to gather further evidence.
Additionally, GFA Executive Committee (ExCo) member Fred Acheampong is leading a delegation to Kumasi to visit the bereaved family, with the Ashanti Regional Football Association leadership also joining.
In light of these developments, the GFA has put GPL Matchday 20 fixtures on hold to allow for thorough engagement with stakeholders. Club CEOs have been invited to a crucial meeting at the GFA headquarters on Thursday, February 6, 2025, while leaders of supporters’ groups from all GPL clubs are scheduled to meet with the GFA on Friday, February 7, 2025.
Furthermore, the Ghana Police High Command has been formally engaged to handle the criminal aspects of the incident, ensuring that those responsible for the violence at Nsoatre face the full force of the law.
The GFA continues to emphasize its commitment to eradicating hooliganism from Ghanaian football and ensuring that all stakeholders—players, officials, and supporters—can enjoy the sport in a safe and secure environment.
