Ghana is in mourning following the passing of one of its most iconic and beloved musicians, Charles Kojo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba. The legendary highlife artist died on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness, according to a statement released by the Fosu family.

The announcement, signed by Fati Ali Yallah, Esq., legal counsel for the Fosu family of Baba Jamal & Associates, expressed deep sorrow at the loss of the music icon, whose career spanned over three decades.
“Daddy Lumba was more than a musician; he was a cultural icon whose music touched countless lives. His soulful voice provided the soundtrack to our love stories, and his poignant lyrics captured the poetry of our struggles, dreams, and resilience,” the statement read.
With an unmatched legacy in Ghanaian highlife music, Daddy Lumba released over 30 albums throughout his career, producing timeless hits such as “Aben Wo Ha,” “Theresa,” and “Yentie Obiaa.” His music not only dominated local airwaves but also resonated with the Ghanaian diaspora across the globe.
Fans and fellow musicians have already begun pouring out tributes on social media, recalling his immense contributions to the industry and the personal impact of his songs. Lumba was widely celebrated for his versatility, lyrical depth, and unique ability to blend tradition with modernity in his music.
Born in 1964 in Nsuta, Ashanti Region, Daddy Lumba began his musical journey in the early 1980s and quickly rose to prominence with the release of his debut album Yereye Aka Akwantuo Mu with the late Nana Acheampong as part of the Lumba Brothers duo. Over the years, he reinvented himself countless times while staying true to his highlife roots, earning numerous awards and honors, including lifetime achievement recognitions and the affection of generations of music lovers.
The Fosu family has requested privacy during this difficult time and has promised to release funeral arrangements in the coming days.
Daddy Lumba’s passing marks the end of an era in Ghanaian music. As the nation grieves, his music will live on, continuing to inspire and console, just as it always has.
