Accra Hearts of Oak has issued a strong-worded statement demanding an immediate retraction and public apology from broadcaster “Darling Boy Piero” of Ezra Radio/TV following what the club describes as “false and irresponsible” comments aired during a recent program.
The comments in question allege that Coach Didi Dramani, who led the Phobians during the 2025 President’s Cup match against arch-rivals Asante Kotoko, made second-half tactical decisions based on instructions from three “Mallams” (spiritualists) reportedly stationed in the team’s dressing room.
In the statement released Wednesday, the club categorically denied the claim, calling it “baseless and defamatory” and insisting it not only disrespects Coach Dramani’s professional integrity but also damages the club’s image.
“Hearts of Oak prides itself on professionalism, discipline, and merit-based technical decision-making,” the statement read. “Our current technical bench is among the most qualified in Ghana, and we reject any attempt to reduce their work to superstition or hearsay.”
Coach Didi Dramani, a former assistant coach of Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, is regarded as one of the most tactically astute coaches in the country. The club emphasized that suggestions of spiritual influence in his coaching decisions are not only unfounded but deeply insulting.
The Phobians have given the presenter and his media outfit a 24-hour ultimatum to issue a public retraction and an unqualified apology. Failing this, the club says it will not hesitate to pursue legal action and report the matter to the relevant media regulatory authorities.
The club concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to the highest standards of professionalism and integrity in Ghanaian football.
This latest development adds to the growing tension between sports media and football clubs in Ghana, raising fresh questions about the responsibility of broadcasters in shaping public narratives around the game.
