World Cup champion from 1990 Lothar Matthäus and two other investors have officially acquired Accra Lions of the Ghana Premier League.
Matthäus was born on 21 March 1961, a German football commentator, former manager and a professional player. He won the Ballon d’Or after leading West Germany to victory in the 1990 FIFA World Cup, where he also lifted the World Cup trophy.

He is still the only German to have won the inaugural FIFA World Player of the Year award in 1991. He was also a member of the 2020 Ballon d’Or Dream Team.
The other two investors are Frank Acheampong, a football player from Ghana, and Frankfurt-based football agent Oliver König will jointly own the club, which is valued at over $2 million.
Accra Lions was founded in 2015 and are presently ranked ninth in Ghana’s top division, are valued at $2 million by Transfer market, though it is unknown how much money Matthäus personally invested in the team.
According to Lothar Matthäus in an interview with Bild, Ghana has a huge skill pool that has to be utilized.
