Military Helicopter Crashes in Adansi, All Eight On Board Feared Dead

A Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) military helicopter has crashed in a remote area near Adansi Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of all eight people on board. The aircraft, identified as a GAF Helicopter 79 (Model 29), was carrying three crew members and five passengers.

According to an official release from the Department of Public Relations at the Ghana Armed Forces General Headquarters, the helicopter departed Accra at 0912hrs this morning, en route to Obuasi, but lost radar contact shortly afterward. Tragically, it was later discovered to have crashed in a rural area of Adansi.

Local sources and first responders report that the bodies of all on board were burned beyond recognition. The cause of the crash remains unknown, and investigations are currently underway to determine what led to the tragic incident.

The Department of Public Relations at Burma Camp issued an urgent release confirming the incident, stating:

“A GAF helicopter. 29 that took off this morning at 0912hrs from Accra and heading for Obuasi is currently off the radar. All efforts are being made to establish contact. On board were 3 crew and 5 passengers. Further details to be communicated soon.”

The Acting Director General of Public Relations, Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin of the Ghana Navy, has asked for the cooperation of the media in sharing accurate information as investigations continue.

Authorities have not yet released the names of the victims, pending official identification and notification of next of kin. Emergency teams, including military investigators and disaster response units, have been dispatched to the crash site.

This tragic event marks one of the deadliest military aviation accidents in Ghana in recent years, and it has sent shockwaves across the country. Ghanaians have been urged to remain calm and await verified updates from official sources.
