The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has confirmed that teenage sensation Lamine Yamal has been released from the national team camp after undergoing a medical procedure without prior communication to the federation’s medical staff.
According to an official statement, the RFEF Medical Services were “surprised” to learn that Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency treatment to address pubic discomfort on the very day Spain’s training camp began.
The federation revealed that no prior notice was given to their medical department regarding the treatment, and they only received a detailed report late that night, recommending 7–10 days of rest for the player.
“In light of the medical recommendation and in order to prioritize the player’s health and full recovery,” the RFEF stated, “Lamine Yamal has been withdrawn from the national team call-up and will not feature in Spain’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier matches against Georgia and Turkey.”
The 17-year-old Barcelona forward has been in scintillating form this season, becoming a key figure for both club and country. However, this unexpected medical intervention has prompted discussions between Barcelona’s medical staffand the Spanish federation to ensure better communication in the future regarding player treatments.
Yamal will now remain under the supervision of Barcelona’s medical team as he continues his recovery, with hopes of returning to full fitness ahead of the next round of club fixtures.
