It has been established that Serie A would be the ‘first federation to air audio’ of the exchanges between VAR officials and referees beginning with the 2023–24 season.
Gianluca Rocchi, the refereeing designator, made the announcement after the proposal had been in the works for some time.
There will be the utmost transparency, but we still need to make a decision, stated Rocchi at a press conference.
From the start of the season, DAZN will make the VAR audio recordings available to the public. We’ve begun a ground-breaking partnership with DAZN and will be the first football federation to broadcast audio of contested occurrences.
It appears that only a hand-picked selection of the instances that generated the most controversy during that weekend’s games will have automatic access to the recordings.
That might alter over time, and it might also depend on what DAZN decides to stream of the majority of Serie A games.
It is also improbable that the VAR audio will be audible right away during the game, but rather some time later.
Refereeing designators might also get a chance to explain why particular judgments were made, whether they were right or not.
“The issue is not whether a mistake was made, but why,” Rocchi continued.
“The solution is to have our own space where we can explain the incidents every 15 days or once a month,”
Numerous former referees currently serve as pundits on Italian television, offering their opinions on contentious situations both during and after the games. However, they don’t always agree with the decisions made by the officials and VAR.
