The New Patriotic Party (NPP) deeply mourns the untimely demise of Hon. Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah, Deputy Minister for Finance and esteemed Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency.
The Party, known for its dedication to the welfare of the nation, is shaken by the loss of a stalwart whose contributions spanned politics, youth activism, and economic leadership.
Hon. Kumah’s journey into national politics was marked by early signs of leadership during his teenage years, where he was elected School Prefect for Opoku Ware School.
This foundation laid the groundwork for his future role as an energetic Party stalwart, contributing significantly to the formation of the Young Patriots, a youth group that ardently championed the Party’s cause from 2009 to 2016.
His remarkable business and entrepreneurial acumen propelled Hon. Kumah to the position of the first Chief Executive Officer for the National Entrepreneurial and Innovation Programme (NEIP) during the initial term of the Akufo-Addo administration.
His impressive management of NEIP showcased his capabilities, leading to his subsequent appointment as Deputy Minister for Finance in 2021—a position he held until his untimely demise.
As the Member of Parliament for Ejisu Constituency, Hon. Kumah demonstrated profound passion and unwavering commitment to the needs of his constituents.
This dedication resulted in his recent acclamation as the Party’s 2024 Parliamentary Candidate for the constituency, a testament to the trust and respect he garnered from both his party and constituents.
The New Patriotic Party, in acknowledging Hon. Kumah’s indelible legacy of hard work and dedication to the nation, extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, particularly his wife and children, and the people of Ejisu for this profound loss.
The Party pays tribute to his memory by directing that all Party flags fly at half-mast for the next seven days, as a mark of respect and honor for a leader whose impact will be remembered for years to come.
In the midst of grief, the NPP reflects on the legacy of Hon. Dr. John Ampontuah Kumah—a leader, advocate, and dedicated public servant who left an indelible mark on the political and economic landscape of Ghana.
