“Ghana’s qualification to major competitions may be problematic in the future” – Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang Badu on poor management

Former Ghana midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang has expressed worry over the direction of Ghana Football. Badu is perturbed with how the various national teams are collapsing.

The former Udinese midfielder fears in the coming years Ghana will not qualify for any major tournament, being the Africa Cup of Nations, WAFU and FIFA World Cup.

Recent performance of the various national teams, has not being encouraging neither inspiring right from the youth team to the senior national teams. Under the leadership of Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku Ghana in all aspect of tournaments failed to impress. Absolutely, nothing positive to smile off.

Under Kurt administrator, Ghana exited the Africa Cup of Nations in the round of 16, losing on penalties to Tunisia in 2019. The Black Meteors followed up with yet another disappointing results after losing on penalty to South Africa in the 3rd place playoff of the CAF U-23 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations tournament in their quest to return to the Olympic Games.

The Black Stars were not exception, they shamefully got booted out of the 2021 AFCON tournament at the Group stage, finishing last of the Group. They went ahead to exhibit a shambolic performance at the 2022 FIFA World Cup which saw them eliminate from the Group, placing bottom.

The Black Maidens also suffered a two year ban for age-cheating, Black Princesses (U-20) failed to qualify for the World Cup.

Putting all these, in perspective Agyemang Badu believe Ghana Football is in dangerous times and fears future worries of not qualifying for major competitions.

“Ghana Football is in dangerous times. If care isn’t taken, in a couple of years qualification to major competitions may become problematic”, Agyemang told Joy FM.

“When I talk I don’t get anything from it. But I talking because the sport that gave me something, is about to die and I can’t just look on”.

Badu was a key member of Ghana team that won the U-20 FIFA World Cup with the Black Satellites, converting the last kick of the game to win Ghana the major trophy.

He played an important role in Ghana qualifying for the 2010 South Africa World Cup and also showed up for the 2014 Brazil FIFA World Cup.

The former Berekum Chelsea, Asante Kotoko SC and Udinese midfielder has 78 caps for the senior national team of Ghana.
