The state of football in Ghana, has become a worry as all national teams keeps failing the state when it comes to tournaments. Recently, the Black Meteors of Ghana added to the woes of the Ghanaian populace after failing to progress from the Group stage of the 2023 CAF U-23 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations.
Ghana’s Black Meteors were the latest to disappoint the country following their shambolic performance when they exited the competition with just a win and a draw, which was not enough to qualify from the Group.
A group that has Morocco, Guinea and Congo. Ghana suffered a 5-1 defeat to Morocco after beating Guinea 3-2 before drawing 1-1 with Guinea.
Their abysmal performance add to the recent failures of the various national teams under the guidance of the Kurt Okraku-led GFA administration.
Former Ghana international Derek Boateng who was a product of Colts and youth football having assessed the Black Stars, CHAN team (local Black Stars), Black Meteors, Black Starlets and the remaining teams says, football in the West African Country is dead and needs to be resurrected.
According to him, youth football is dead and the GFA who is lost can not handle the sport.“It’s about time we start being fair and tough in our decision. We haven’t done enough to be at the Olympic Games.”
“The GFA think they have answers to everything. Our youth football is collapsing and it’s about time we stop thinking about Black Stars,” Derek told Joy Sports Link.
He again revealed the GFA members influence selection at various national team levels because they own players.
“The FA owns a lot of players in the national teams and that’s why we don’t perform,” he continued.
“When CK [Akonnor] was there, the FA were telling him the kind of players he should call and when things didn’t go well they kicked him out.
“For me, I think the GFA don’t know what they are doing. I don’t think the GFA school will help Ghana football.”
Boateng played through the ranks at the national team before advancing to feature for the senior team on several occasions.
