Crystal Palace Football Club is in the midst of a major shakeup as the legendary Roy Hodgson officially steps down as the first-team manager.

This unexpected turn of events comes after the 76-year-old manager fell ill during a training session last week, prompting concerns and a rush to the hospital.

After undergoing tests and being confirmed stable, Hodgson has made the difficult decision to part ways with the club he has led for four seasons.

In a heartfelt statement released on the club’s official website, Hodgson expressed his deep connection to the team, acknowledging the special place Crystal Palace holds in his footballing life.

“This club is very special and means so much to me and has played a big part in my footballing life,” Hodgson said. “I have fully enjoyed my time here across six seasons, as it has given me the chance to work with top-class players and staff doing what I love every day.”

Acknowledging recent circumstances and out of prudence for the club’s future, Hodgson decided to step aside, allowing Crystal Palace to expedite their plans for a new manager, originally intended for the summer.

The seasoned manager conveyed gratitude to the club’s leadership, coaching staff, and players, recognizing the support he received throughout his tenure.

“I would like to thank Steve Parish and his American partners for their support, along with my coaching staff and backroom team who have helped me so much along the way,” Hodgson stated.

He specifically mentioned his long-term friend and assistant, Ray Lewington, coaches Dean Kiely and Paddy McCarthy, and various departments contributing to the club’s success.

Despite the unexpected departure, Hodgson expressed confidence in the team’s future, wishing them success in the remaining weeks, months, and seasons to come.

As Crystal Palace navigates this managerial transition, fans are left to reflect on the indelible impact Hodgson has had on the club during his tenure, marking the end of an era at Selhurst Park.
