Borussia Dortmund has announced the departure of manager Edin Terzic, who leaves the club despite having 12 months remaining on his contract. The decision comes shortly after Dortmund’s defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League final earlier in June.
In an emotional statement, Terzic expressed his gratitude and explained his decision to step down. “Dear Borussia fans, even though it is really hurting me right now, I would like to tell you that I will be leaving BVB today,” he said. “It was a huge honour to be able to lead this great club to a DFB Cup victory and most recently to a Champions League final.
“I asked those responsible for a meeting after our final at Wembley because after ten years at BVB, including five years on the coaching team and two and a half years as head coach, I feel that the upcoming new start should be accompanied by a new man on the sidelines.
“Everyone who knows me knows that during this decision-making process of the past few weeks, two hearts have been beating in my chest. But even after intensive discussions, my basic feeling has not changed. I always wish Borussia Dortmund only the very best and don’t say goodbye, but see you again.”
Terzic’s departure marks the end of a significant era for Dortmund, where his leadership saw the club achieve notable success, including a DFB Cup victory and a memorable run to the Champions League final. His exit also raises questions about the future of key players, such as centre-back Mats Hummels, who may be impacted by the managerial change.
Dortmund’s search for a new manager begins as they aim to build on the foundations laid by Terzic and continue their pursuit of both domestic and European glory.
