CAF Revokes Approval for Baba Yara Stadium, Ghana to Host International Matches Abroad

In a significant blow to Ghana’s football ambitions, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially withdrawn its approval for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

The decision, announced today, stems from technical infractions, notably an unsuitable playing field that fails to meet international standards.

This development leaves the Ghana Football Association (GFA) in a difficult position as the national team will now be forced to host their upcoming international matches, including crucial AFCON qualifiers, outside the country.

The stadium, which has long been a fortress for the Black Stars, will no longer be available until the necessary renovations and improvements are made to meet CAF’s stringent criteria.

The withdrawal of CAF’s approval not only affects national team games but also impacts local clubs relying on the stadium for international competitions.

The GFA is expected to communicate the next steps, including alternative venues, as they race against time to find suitable options abroad.

This move is a significant wake-up call for Ghana, as it highlights the urgent need for the country to invest in world-class sports infrastructure.

Fans will now wait anxiously to see where the Black Stars will play their future home games as preparations for the AFCON qualifiers continue.

Further updates are expected from the GFA as they engage with CAF to resolve the matter.
