NSA Demands Documentation as Bryan Acheampong’s Nkawkaw Stadium Project Faces Regulatory Scrutiny

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, has formally requested full documentation regarding ongoing construction works at the Nkawkaw Sports Stadium. This follows what he described as a “progressive” and constructive engagement with the Member of Parliament for Abetifi, Hon. Bryan Acheampong.

The NSA’s demand comes in the wake of resumed construction activity at the stadium, led by Farahdel Ghana Limited, without prior authorization from the NSA—the official custodians of the facility.

According to the NSA, the project, originally launched in 2020 by the Middle Belt Authority (MBA) in partnership with Farahdel Ghana Ltd, was intended to transform the Nkawkaw Stadium into a modern, multifunctional sporting venue. However, the initiative stalled due to significant budgetary constraints.

In early 2025, Hon. Bryan Acheampong offered to finance a scaled-down, temporary version of the project to provide Okwahu United Football Club a home ground for the upcoming season. Though seen as a well-meaning intervention, the NSA expressed concern that the MP’s new initiative was executed without the requisite approvals from the Authority.

In May 2025, construction resumed at the site based on the revised model introduced by Hon. Acheampong. Media reports soon emerged, raising questions and creating confusion about the scope, legality, and oversight of the ongoing work.

Alarmed by these developments, the NSA quickly dispatched a fact-finding team led by its Estates Manager and Chief Operating Officer to the site. Following the submission of their report on June 8, Mr. Ampofo Ankrah reached out directly to Hon. Acheampong, advising him to temporarily halt all work until proper documentation and regulatory protocols were satisfied.

A stakeholders’ briefing was subsequently held at the stadium on June 16, where clarity was provided on the project’s new direction, necessary approvals, and the way forward. Representatives from the community, regional authorities, and the Ministry of Youth and Sports were in attendance.

“As the law demands, and in the interest of transparency and due process, I have requested all documentation on the current works being undertaken at the stadium,” said Mr. Ampofo Ankrah. “We are not against development. We simply want to ensure that it is done the right way, with the right oversight and legal backing.”

The NSA has since confirmed that a complete report will be submitted to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Kofi Iddi Adams, as part of ongoing efforts to ensure accountability and proper governance in national sports infrastructure projects.
