Accra, August 3, 2025 — MultiChoice Ghana has responded to recent directives from the Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovation, Mr. Samuel Nartey George, regarding a proposed reduction in DStv subscription fees, stating categorically that the company finds the proposal “not tenable.”

In a media statement released on Sunday, MultiChoice expressed concern over the Minister’s stance, indicating it had engaged in “ongoing endeavours” to resolve the issue amicably through open dialogue with both the Minister and the National Communications Authority (NCA).

“It is regrettable that the Honourable Minister has taken this stance,” the statement read. “We have made a proposal to the Honourable Minister and the NCA on an alternative further engagement avenue.”

MultiChoice has been operating in Ghana for over three decades and highlighted the potential impact of the impasse on its extensive network of employees, agents, installers, and retailers across the country. The company reassured stakeholders of its commitment to resolving the matter without jeopardizing livelihoods.

Responding to the recent appreciation of the Ghanaian cedi—which reportedly prompted the Minister’s call for price reductions—MultiChoice acknowledged the currency’s improved performance but clarified it has never referred to it as a “fluke,” contrary to public speculation.

“We appreciate the recent appreciation of the Cedi… however, it is not tenable to reduce the DStv subscription fees in the manner proposed by the Minister,” the company asserted.

MultiChoice emphasized that subscription fees are influenced by broader competitive and macroeconomic factors, adding that it continues to prioritize affordable pricing without compromising on content quality or service delivery.

The company reaffirmed its commitment to “constructive engagement” with the Ministry and to complying with all relevant Ghanaian laws and regulations.

The statement, signed by MultiChoice Ghana Managing Director Alex Okyere, ends with a hopeful tone that government authorities will respond in good faith and work towards a mutually beneficial resolution.
