Tems becomes the first Nigerian female artist to become a Grammy winner

Tems has become the first and only Nigerian female artist to win a Grammy after “Wait For U” by Future won Best Melodic Rap Performance at the 65th GRAMMYs.

She was credited as featured artist alongside Drake after her vocals from song “Higher” were sampled by Future on his single “Wait For U”.

Tems signed signed to RCA records in 2021. Before then, she had gained global prominence after being featured on Wizkid’s 2020 single “Essence”, which made it to the top ten of Billboard Hot 100 after the released of a remixed version which featured Justin Bieber, and earned her Grammy award nomination. In that same year, Tems got featured on “Fountains” by Drake.
