Ghana’s journey toward the global stage has taken a decisive step forward as head coach Carlos Queiroz named a 28-man squad for the Black Stars’ World Cup preparation camp and a high-profile international friendly against Wales in Cardiff.

The squad, carefully balanced across all departments, features five goalkeepers, nine defenders, seven midfielders, and seven forwards. It reflects a blend of experience, returning stars, and emerging talent as Ghana gears up for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Training commenced on Monday, May 25, 2026, at Dragon Park in Cardiff, with the team wasting no time in sharpening tactics ahead of their clash with Wales on June 2. The friendly is expected to provide a crucial test for the Black Stars as they fine-tune strategies before the tournament.

One of the biggest headlines from the squad announcement is the return of Baba Abdul Rahman. The Greece-based defender, who last featured for Ghana in September 2023, has earned his recall following an impressive season with PAOK. The former Chelsea left-back made 35 appearances, contributing three goals and three assists, signaling a return to top form.

Also making a long-awaited comeback is Olympique Lyon winger Ernest Nuamah. After spending over a year on the sidelines recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury, Nuamah returns fully fit and eager to make an impact. His pace and creativity are expected to add a new dimension to Ghana’s attacking options.

The squad also welcomes back several other key players from injury layoffs, including Rayo Vallecano defender Abdul Mumin, Saint-Étienne midfielder Augustine Boakye, and Stade Rennes defender Alidu Seidu. Their return adds depth and experience to a squad that aims to compete strongly on the world stage.

Adding a touch of youthful promise is Ajax Amsterdam’s 20-year-old prospect Paul Reverson, who has been called up for further assessment. His inclusion highlights Queiroz’s long-term vision, as Ghana looks beyond the immediate tournament to build a sustainable future.

The upcoming World Cup presents a formidable challenge for the Black Stars. Drawn in Group L, Ghana will open their campaign against Panama in Toronto before facing European heavyweights England and Croatia in Boston and Philadelphia, respectively.

For Queiroz and his men, the Cardiff camp and the Wales friendly represent more than just preparation—they are the first real test of ambition, resilience, and readiness. With returning stars regaining fitness and young talents stepping into the spotlight, Ghana’s World Cup story is beginning to take shape, fueled by hope, determination, and the dream of making a mark on football’s biggest stage.
