Manhyia South Member of Parliament, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has clarified that an invitation from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) was not directed at him personally, but was related to an ongoing investigation involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited.
According to the MP, his law firm, Sarkodie Baffour Awuah & Partners, represents SIC Life Savings and Loans in legal matters, and it is the company that is the subject of the EOCO investigation.
In a statement setting out the facts surrounding the matter, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah said EOCO, in a letter dated February 10, 2026, invited the Senior Partner of the firm to appear at its head office in Accra on February 17, 2026, to assist with the investigation.
He explained that on February 18, 2026, he responded to EOCO, informing the Office that he had subsequently become a Member of Parliament and had therefore referred the matter to the Clerk to Parliament for advice.
The MP further stated that the law firm subsequently cooperated with EOCO through a lawful representative, who attended interrogations on three separate occasions.
These engagements took place on March 4, March 18 and April 30, 2026, during which the representative provided the information requested by EOCO.
He added that a formal written statement concerning the matter was also submitted to EOCO on April 30, 2026.
Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah stressed that following the cooperation and submission of the requested information and statement, there had been no further invitation from EOCO until the latest development.
The clarification comes amid public discussion over EOCO’s attempted arrest of the MP on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, following an incident involving EOCO officials and the MP after he left the Accra High Court.
The MP’s account seeks to distinguish his personal status from the investigation involving SIC Life Savings and Loans, while outlining the steps already taken by his law firm to cooperate with EOCO.
