Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu, has added his voice to the growing calls for the dissolution of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) board.
This follows the termination of the controversial sale of 60% of SSNIT’s shares in four hotels to Rock City Hotel, owned by Agriculture Minister Bryan Acheampong. Ablakwa, who initially exposed the sale and rallied support from Organized Labour and other unions, leading to its termination, believes the SSNIT board should be held accountable for their actions.
He argues that the board disregarded clear signs and due process, proceeding with a transaction that was not in the best interests of Ghana.
Ablakwa’s stance emphasizes the need for responsible governance and transparency in the management of public funds.
Holding individuals accountable for their actions is crucial in this situation. The SSNIT board must face consequences for their role in perpetuating state capture.
Their claim that they were unaware of the transaction adviser’s report is unacceptable, as the adviser had explicitly warned them that the deal was unfavorable.
The board’s decision to proceed despite these warnings, and their subsequent defense of the transaction, demonstrates a blatant disregard for responsible governance.
They must be held accountable for their actions, and the board must be dissolved. The lack of bank guarantees, value for money, and proof of funds are all red flags that were ignored, and those responsible must face the consequences.
