The National Circles Committee (NCC), the official supporters’ body of Asante Kotoko, has announced a total boycott of Ghana football until the Ghana Football Association (GFA) takes concrete steps to bring those responsible for the tragic death of Kotoko supporter Pooley to justice.
In a strongly worded statement, the NCC demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of Nsoatreman FC owner, Hon. Ignatius Baffour Awuah, and the alleged perpetrator of the fatal stabbing.
According to the supporters’ group, the failure of authorities to act swiftly on the matter has fueled their decision to withdraw their support for all football-related activities in the country.
“We refuse to be part of a football system that allows such acts of violence to go unpunished,” the statement read. “Until the GFA ensures that justice is served, we will not attend any matches, nor support any football-related activities in Ghana.”
The NCC has also formally communicated its stance to the management of Asante Kotoko, urging the club to take a firm position in seeking justice for their fallen member.
The tragic events unfolded during Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 fixture against Nsoatreman FC, where a violent confrontation outside the stadium resulted in Pooley being fatally stabbed.
The incident has sparked outrage within the football community, with calls for improved security at match venues and stricter enforcement of laws against hooliganism.
Meanwhile, the GFA has already taken steps by banning Nsoatreman FC from using their home venue until further notice, while an official investigation into the incident is ongoing.
However, Kotoko’s supporters insist that until arrests and prosecutions are made, they will not return to the stands.
The boycott threatens to further disrupt the league, which has already seen Matchday 20 postponed due to the ongoing investigations into the violence.
