Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has emphasized the crucial role of the Ghana Police Service in ensuring a peaceful and violent-free election in the upcoming December polls.

Addressing an event at the Police CID Headquarters, Dr. Bawumia stressed the importance of consolidating Ghana’s democratic gains.

He commended the Police Service for their initiatives, such as the “Snatch Them Young” policing initiative, which has enhanced responsiveness, accountability, and operational effectiveness.

Dr. Bawumia encouraged the Police to continue their efforts, particularly as the nation approaches the general elections on December 7.

“The Police Service has a major responsibility in ensuring the integrity of the electoral process,” Dr. Bawumia stated. “I urge you to remain vigilant, proactive, and committed to maintaining law and order, ensuring a secure environment for all citizens to exercise their democratic rights.”

President Akufo-Addo has appointed Commissioner of Police (COP) Christian Tetteh Yohuno as the new Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations, effective immediately.

This appointment was made pursuant to the advice of the Police Council, which recognized COP Yohuno’s exceptional credentials and dedication to duty during its meeting on Wednesday, July 17th, 2024.

With over three decades of experience in law enforcement, COP Yohuno has established himself as a distinguished officer, having held various key positions within the Ghana Police Service.
