It has been confirmed that, the technical team of Black Meteors is dissolved after few days of exiting the 2023 CAF U-23 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The U-23 team were hoping to return to the Olympic Games having missed out since 2004 Athens, chased their own shadows in far North Africa as they failed to book qualification from Group A. Ghana was housed in Group A with host Morocco, Congo and Guinea.
They finished 3rd behind Morocco and Guinea with just four points. Ghana beat Congo Brazzaville 3-2 but lost 5-1 to Morocco and drew 1-1 with Guinea in their last game to bow out of the tournament.
Speaking to 3Sports, Management Committee Chairman of the Black Meteors, Frederick Acheampong revealed that the technical team led by Ibrahim Tanko and the playing body will be dissolved.
“This team was put together for the purpose of qualifying for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris and we failed to qualify so obviously, it will be dissolved”
“If it happens that Executive Council will discuss and consider another appointment or want the coach to continue, that will be in the powers of the Executive Council. I am not in the position to say whether they will continue or not because I don’t make the appointment in terms of the national teams. It is the decision of the Executive Council.
“The team stands dissolved because we failed to qualify for the Olympic Games and we don’t have any tournaments coming up next year,” he added.
