On Friday, June 30, David de Gea’s contract expired with Man United, and he is leaving the team after 12 years.
The long-serving 32-year-old’s absence from Old Trafford for the 2023–24 season is becoming highly imminent.
Despite having reached an agreement on a new Man United deal that would expire at the end of the 2022–23 season, De Gea technically became a free agent on Friday.
As they were about to sign a new first-choice goalkeeper, United withdrew from the agreement on Friday, 30 June, and decreased the conditions.
It was also disclosed that manager Erik ten Hag’s concerns are what ultimately determines whether to renegotiate the agreement.
The Dutchman is rumored to have lost faith in De Gea following a series of high-profile errors in the 2023–24 season.
De Gea joined Man United in 2011 after leaving Atletico Madrid, and he made 545 appearances throughout his time there.
While at Old Trafford, he won the Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup, and two League Cups.
The 32-year-old won the Golden Glove award for the Premier League last year after preserving 17 clean sheets in 38 appearances while allowing 43 goals.
On Saturday, 1 July, report reaching sstvgh.com that Andre Onana of Inter Milan is “top of the list” to succeed De Gea as the goalkeeper at Old Trafford.
It is thought that the Italian heavyweights will resist a deal that is less than £50 million.
